Friendship Bracelets

While at university two of my good friends and I formed a (largely ironic) triumvirate, The LGB3. Before we set off to America on our Year Abroad adventures during the summer of 2006, I purchased us each a friendship bracelets so that we'd.. be apart, but still kind of united by THREAD (aw!). Susie's never arrived (grumble grumble, Royal Mail!) I wore mine until it fell off somewhere in the Rocky Mountains. However, Lydia's bracelet (see right) remained intact triumphantly (IT EVEN TRAVELLED TO JAPAN) until the final day of our time together in Norwich in June 2008. The bracelet was attached to her wrist by a single, delicate thread for over a month. Oh the poignant significance of that bracelet; reflecting the ending of our time as UEA Undergrads.

Another good friend of mine, Kathryn and I recently bought matching friendship bracelets (in different colours) because Kathryn is leaving England for America very soon. Our bracelets are less traditional looking than the ones The LGB3 had, but they are awesome and beaded. These puppies were found in Camden.

Today I purchased a Friendship Braid-Making Kit from Beckenham's finest toy shop and have since spent the latter part of this evening YouTubing HOW to make friendship bracelets. I followed this useful video made by Hollistergirl101:

Coloured thread is pretty. Oh yes it is. *twirl*

I wish I had a kitten to playfully tease with this bundle of cotton!

I only have one complete bracelet made so far. I won't post that now. I hope to have several more friendship bracelet designs to blog/exhibit along with it after work tomorrow.

  1. Alas that my bracelet never arrived! I would have worn it forever, or at least until it fell off at a symbolic time.
